This Blog will give you a snapshots of the wonderful learnings I had through my internships in Uttarkashi Himalayas, Uttarakhand.

Women Drudgery




Women doing all the work in the Family, in the Agri field and in the work place / market is not a uncommon thing in rural India. But unique thing here in Uttarkashi is that, women also have to venture into the forest to collect fodder (most pine leaves) and walk back quite a distance carrying the load. The type of basket that you see here is very common in the Garhwal Himaylas. A Fully filled basket would weigh around 50-60 kgs. If they carry cow dung it would be heavier.

It is not just about carry that heavy load, it is also about negotiating the slope of hill and the slippery rocky terrain which adds to the challenge.

My friend Nidhi T tried gave a shot to understand what it takes to carry those loads. And the consequence was ...
